Islamic Studies Programs in French in partnership with the European Institute of Human Sciences.

Two programs are offered:

  1. Diploma of Higher Islamic Studies (DESI)
    (bac + 3 level) intended for holders of the baccalaureate or an equivalent diploma.
  2. Certificate of Muslim Culture (CCM)
    for anyone wishing to acquire basic knowledge of Islam.

1-Diploma of Higher Islamic Studies (DESI) Goals:

  • Acquire fundamental knowledge in the different Islamic sciences
  • Develop an ability to adapt Muslim law “fiqh” by combining theoretical knowledge of the texts with the specificities of the Western context.
  • Recognize diversity and acquire the ethics of disagreement.
  • Acquire knowledge and know-how in the areas of preaching “da’wa”, teaching and research.

    Duration: 3 years
    Start: October of each year
    Minimum age: 17 years (Hold a secondary school leaving certificate or equivalent)

First year
1- Quran (memorization (chapter ‘amma) and rules of psalmody) 
2- The rules of religious acts
3- The sciences of the Quran
4- The sciences of hadith
5- Muslim faith (elements of faith)
6- Introduction to Muslim legislation
7- Spirituality
8- Story 1: The life and works of the Prophet (r) 

Second Year
1- Quran (memorization (chapter Tabarak) and rules of psalmody)
2- Muslim law: the rules of marriage and divorce
3- Commentary on prescriptive verses.
4- Political-religious movements
5- Foundations of Muslim law: The sources of Muslim law and legal prescription
6- History 2: Muslim history and civilization
7- Muslim reformism
8- Inheritance law
9- Development of the final studies project

Third Year
1- Quran (memorization (chapter qad sami’a) and rules of psalmody)
2- Muslim law: financial transactions
3- Commentary on prescriptive hadiths.
4- Foundations of Muslim law: Linguistic rules, ijtihad and reasoning by analogy
5- The purposes of Muslim law
6- Contemporary legal issues
7- Legal adages
8- Judiciary and arbitration
9- The foundations of preaching
10- End of studies report

2-Certificate of Muslim Culture (CCM)

Objectives: To acquire basic knowledge of Islam.

Duration: 1 year
Start: Any time
Minimum age: 17 years (Secondary school completion certificate or equivalent)

Subjects taught

  1. Muslim Faith: The Articles of Faith
  2. The rules of religious acts
  3. The Life and Works of the Prophet (PBUH)
  4. The sciences of the Quran
  5. The sciences of hadith

A certificate of Islamic studies will be issued at the end of this training.

Teaching methods:

  • Online courses
    taught by qualified and experienced teachers. Classes are offered from 12:00 to 15:00, they are recorded and then posted on the self-learning platform for later consultation
  • Self-learning platform
    that contains courses and all educational materials and is available at all times
  • Telephone permanence with professors
    to allow students to interact with professors and ask them all their questions
  • Homework and assignments
    throughout the year. They aim to focus students’ attention on the points to remember from each course. They are not included in the final exam grade.
  • Books and course manuals in French
    Will be delivered to each student after registration
  • Intensive seminars in Montreal by professors
    During school holidays and vacations, MAC welcomes the Institute’s professors to provide intensive seminars that cover the subjects taught
  • Supervision sessions with Imam Mahdi Tirkaoui
    Periodic meetings are organized in Montreal with Imam Mahdi Tirkaoui for the purposes of supervision and answers to students’ questions.
  • Exams are held at the MAC premises
    in June and retake in August each year.

 

Cost of training:

The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) offers these programs to its students with a 10% reduction on regular tuition fees.

  • For DESI
    $1100.00 per year instead of $1275.00
  • For the CCM
    $650.00 per year instead of $750.00

These fees are payable by check made out to MAC on the date of registration.
